Welcome to GEOG 102 – Earth From Above! This course will introduce you to the patterns and processes that shape the surface of our planet, and how we use remote sensing to understand current and ongoing planetary change. This course covers a lot of ground (pun intended) and is a fantastic course for non-science majors looking for a breadth requirement. As instructor, my goal is to get you curious about your physical environment, and to look at the planet from another perspective (again, pun intended).

Course ScheduleWinter 2024

Lectures are Mondays and Wednesdays, from 2:30 – 3:50, and classes run from 3 January to 8 April 2024, inclusive. This is a hybrid course: Students registered for the online version of the class are strongly encouraged to join the zoom in real-time if their schedule permits. All lectures will be recorded and linked on this course website for students in either version of the class. So if you are feeling ill, please do not come to class: take advantage of the online or recorded lectures!

Evaluation

Student learning will be evaluated with a mix of online quizzes (4 at 10% each), take-home assignments (4 @ 5% each), a take-home final exam (30%), and a final reflection (10%).

Assignments will be posted here but must be submitted through the course Moodle. Please do not email your assignments.

Quizzes will be administered through the course Moodle.

The final reflection paper is due April 7th at 11:59 pm. Details and grading rubric will be posted here later in the term.
